THE TERRITORY

The territory of nature reserve oriented Oasis Simeto is what remains of an
ancient and vast marsh ecosystem that stretched south of the city of Catania,
which included various wetlands, such as that of Agnone, Valsavoia and
Pantano di Catania. Environments all'antropizzazione survivors of this, falling
in the reserve are: Gornalunga lake, formed from the tributary of Simeto, it
had a mouth independent at about 2 km to the south of the mouth of Simeto.



The lake Gurnazza, stemmed from the coastal dunes, the Salatelle, vast brackish marshes, and the new mouth, cut out after the great flood of 1951, the
old shaft fociale, shaped like a sickle, now isolated and fed from the channels Buttaceto and Jungetto.
